Halifax, NS (February 25, 2009) – Leah Skerry, owner of EQ Media and full time student at Saint Mary’s University, has been named the 2009 Nova Scotia Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champion by national charitable organization, Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship “ACE” and proud program supporter, CIBC.
Since September 2006, Leah, a Commerce student, has owned and operated EQ Media, that aims to help businesses and individuals in Atlantic Canada sell their product, services, and ideas by providing marketing and graphic design services. These services are in the form of corporate packages: flyer, logo, business card, web design, promotion, animations, brochures, and billboards.
Operating EQ Media has provided Leah with the opportunity to: · Maintain a promotions team of 7-12 students · Expand to a client base of twelve major accounts · Hire her first graphic designer · Use the profits of her business to pay for schooling
“As President of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) SMU and owner of EQ media I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact ACE has had on Canadian students and entrepreneurs,” says Leah. “ACE is unlike any organization I have been a part of, in that it offers unique possibilities by inspiring and building on the future of our economy; young entrepreneurs. I encourage all students who aren’t part of ACE to join now; you will be surprised what you can do with the right support! The regional round of competition will take place at the 2009 ACE Regional Exposition in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 6th, 2009. Provincial Champions will each present their business to a live panel of business professionals who will decide the two Regional Champions, who will each receive a $1,000 cash prize and move on to the final round of competition taking place at the 2009 ACE National Exposition in Toronto on May 6th, 2009. The National Champion will be named and will receive a $10,000 cash prize and represent Canada at the international level of competition, the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, if he or she qualifies. “Given the changing economy student entrepreneurs are being forced to take on new challenges to ensure their businesses thrive” says Amy Harder, President of ACE. “ACE provides an experience that strengthens and supports student development to create a more sustainable and enterprising Canada.” For more information about the Student Entrepreneur Competition taking place regionally and nationally in 2009 please visit www.aceexpos.ca.
