2010 Atlantic Canada Regional Champions announced!

Toronto, ON (Friday, February 26, 2010) – The 2010 Atlantic Canada Regional Champions of the “Students In Free Enterprise” (SIFE) program and the Student Entrepreneur Program were announced on Friday, February 26th in Halifax at the ACE Regional Exposition, proudly supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

Post secondary SIFE teams competed in three separate challenges; here are the results for each challenge: 

HSBC SIFE Financial Education Challenge
League A
• Regional Second Runner-Up -  College of the North Atlantic – Clarenville
• Regional Runner-Up – Saint Mary’s University
• Regional Champion – College of the North Atlantic – St. John’s

League B
• Regional Second Runner-Up – St. Francis Xavier University
• Regional Runner-Up – College of the North Atlantic – Grand Falls-Windsor
• Regional Champion – Memorial University of Newfoundland

TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge
League A
• Regional Second Runner-Up – Mount Saint Vincent University
• Regional Runner-Up – St. Francis Xavier University
• Regional Champion – College of the North Atlantic – Grand Falls-Windsor

League B
• Regional Second Runner-Up – Acadia University
• Regional Runner-Up – Memorial University of Newfoundland
• Regional Champion – Saint Mary’s University

SIFE Green Challenge
• Regional Runner-Up – Université Sainte-Anne
• Regional Champions – Acadia University and St. Francis Xavier University

Four provincial champions from Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick competed in the 2010 Student Entrepreneur Regional Competition. Two regional champions were named: 

• Jason Oakley, Student at Memorial University of Newfoundland and owner of RECESS! Media Inc.
• Jeremy Flynn, Student at St, Francis Xavier University and owner of Flynnweb

“Year after year our SIFE teams and student entrepreneurs continue to wow us with their determination and dedication at such a young age", explains ACE President, Amy Harder    . “We are thrilled to announce our regional champions for Atlantic Canada – although all who competed should be proud of their accomplishments.”

Regional champions will now move on to the national level of competition, taking place this May 10 to 12 at the 2010 ACE National Exposition in Calgary. This will be the first time in the organization’s history that the ACE National Exposition will be moving from Toronto to Calgary.

ACE delivers a team-based program called Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) and an individual-based program, the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.
