Toronto, ON (Friday, March 5, 2010) – The 2010 Western Canada Regional Champions of the “Students In Free Enterprise” (SIFE) program and the Student Entrepreneur Program were announced on Friday, March 5th in Calgary at the ACE Western Canada Regional Exposition.
Post secondary SIFE teams competed in three separate challenges; here are the results for each challenge:
HSBC SIFE Financial Education Challenge League A • Regional Second Runner-Up – University of Regina • Regional Runner-Up – British Columbia Institute of Technology • Regional Champion – Okanagan College
League B • Regional Second Runner-Up – Brandon University • Regional Runner-Up – University of Calgary • Regional Champion – Thompson Rivers University
TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge League A • Regional Second Runner-Up – University of Calgary • Regional Runner-Up – Okanagan College • Regional Champion – Brandon University
League B • Regional Second Runner-Up – Royal Roads University • Regional Runner-Up – Thompson Rivers University • Regional Champion – British Columbia Institute of Technology
SIFE Green Challenge • Regional Runner Up – Simon Fraser University • Regional Champion – Brandon University • Regional Champion – Okanagan College
Four provincial champions from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia competed in the 2010 Student Entrepreneur Regional Competition. Two regional champions were named:
• Justin Kathan student at the University of Manitoba and owner of KuRV Apparel • Teang Tang student at Athabasca University and owner of Mingle Event Management Inc.
“Year after year our SIFE teams and student entrepreneurs continue to wow us with their determination and dedication at such a young age, explains ACE President, Amy Harder. “We are thrilled to announce our regional champions for Western Canada - although all who competed should be proud of their accomplishments.”
Regional champions will now move on to the national level of competition, taking place this May 10 to 12 at the 2010 ACE National Exposition in Calgary. This will be the first time in the organization’s history that the ACE National Exposition will be moving from Toronto to Calgary.
