St. Lawrence College named Regional Champion
03.11.2010

Toronto, ON (Thursday, March 11, 2010) – St. Lawrence College’s “Students In Free Enterprise” or SIFE team has been named the 2010 Green Challenge Regional Champion by national charitable organization Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE).

All Ontario and Quebec based SIFE teams were judged by live panels of business professionals, and regional champions were announced on Monday March 8th in Toronto at the 2010 ACE Central Canada Regional Exposition.

The SIFE team from St. Lawrence College stood out to the judges because of their dedication to providing green homes, in connection with local organization Pathways to Independence, for those living with disabilities. To date, through the team’s project “Green Homes”, they have helped to identify $2,481 energy savings offsetting and 12 tons of carbon emissions. Future plans include a projected savings of over 70 tones of CO2 emissions over the next three years.

"I'm so very proud of my team and their efforts. We have a really talented and dedicated group of individuals, explains Spencer Dosset of SIFE St. Lawrence. “We will use this as motivation to continue to build on the impact we are having in our community."

The end goal of this annual challenge is for SIFE teams to provide others with the knowledge required to make positive environmental decisions, both in their personal and professional lives. Teams have been provided the necessary tools and training from ACE to develop and implement their extensive projects to help others. The St. Lawrence team will now move on to the national level of competition taking place in Calgary on May 11th.

“The SIFE St. Lawrence team’s efforts are a great example of the environmental movement our students are leading across this country,” explains ACE President, Amy Harder. “They should be very proud of their accomplishments and we look forward to what they achieve in the future.”
